November 6: Rinse the Calabash

Mawnin', fam. š
Di moon is a waning crescent this morning, only about 10% lit, a thin silver sliver rising late before dawn. Di new moon land this Monday, November 9, around two o'clock in di morning. We're almost at di empty of di cycle now, di last quiet days before a fresh start. Think of a grandmother in a little kitchen in Portland, after di soup done and di family eat. She don't leave di calabash sitting with scraps. She rinse it clean with cool water from di standpipe, wipe it dry, and set it upside down on di shelf, empty and ready. She know you can't pour new soup into a bowl that still hold yesterday. That's di invitation today. Before di new moon, rinse one thing in your life clean. Leave a little space empty on purpose.
Today's Jamaica Pulse Practice
Sit easy with your hands open on your lap, palms up, like an empty calabash. Breathe in slow for four and feel your chest fill. Hold for two. Then breathe out for six, long and easy, and imagine rinsing something out with di breath, a worry, a leftover from yesterday, a plan that don't fit no more. Do it five rounds. On di last breath out, whisper, "Mi empty, an mi ready."
Tonight, di sky stay dark till late. After dinner, step outside with a cup of water, take one sip, then pour a little out on di ground by di step or di garden, like you're rinsing di day. Look up at di thin moon if you can catch her, or just di stars over Portland way. Stand there for a few breaths with empty hands. Then tell yourself, "Space a blessing."
Today's Affirmation
I am happy because I make room for what is coming. I am healthy as I release what no longer feeds me. I am wealthy in di quiet space I protect before di new begins. And I am strong enough to rinse the old clean and leave the bowl empty.
