October 29: Put Down the Basket

Mawnin', fam. 🌖
Di moon is waning gibbous this morning, about 83% lit and getting a little lighter each night. Next stop is di last quarter moon on Sunday, November 1, around half past three in di afternoon our time. As she set down a little of her light, she remind us we don't have to carry everything all di time. Picture a higgler coming into Coronation Market before day, basket of yam and callaloo balanced on her head. She walk strong and proud, but when she reach her stall, she don't stand there holding it. She put it down, roll her shoulders, and make herself comfortable for di day. Strength is knowing when to carry and when to put it down.
Today's Jamaica Pulse Practice
Sit easy and let your hands rest on your knees. Breathe in for four and lift your shoulders up toward your ears, like you're holding that basket. Hold for two. Then breathe out for six and let your shoulders drop all the way down, like di basket landing on di stall. Do it five rounds, morning and whenever di day feel heavy.
Tonight, di moon rise late, around five to nine. Before she come up, take a piece of paper and write down one thing you've been carrying that isn't yours to carry. Then step out on di verandah, listen to di tree frogs singing in di dark, and when di moon peep over di hills, fold di paper and tell yourself, "Mi put it down. Mi nuh haffi carry it all." Leave di paper in a drawer and let it rest there.
Today's Affirmation
I am happy because I let myself rest. I am healthy as I put down di weight that isn't mine. I am wealthy in di help and love around me. And I am strong enough to carry what matters and wise enough to set di rest aside.
